Taylors of Harrogate

Introduction

Taylors of Harrogate began producing tea & coffee as far back as 1886, when Charles Taylor set up a tea and coffee company. C. E. Taylors & Co became known for quality, and the flagship store at 1 Parliament Street, Harrogate became famous across the region.
They have grown to become one of the UK’s largest and well-known manufacturers of high-quality tea’s & coffee’s, “Yorkshire Tea” being one of the companies most common brand names.

Project Requirements

Taylors of Harrogate recently invested in a brand new manufacturing extension to increase production of tea to 24 hours per day 7 days per week.

Dust Control Environmental was selected as one of their preferred suppliers to design and install dust extraction to the new facility along with a new state of the art system to collect all waste tea dust from all on-site dust filter systems to collect in a common system in the new facility.

How DCE met the Requirements

DCE installed over 200M of galvanized clip together ductwork to control and extract tea dust from unloading machines, blending and discharge stations conveying the dust to an externally located ATEX approved cartridge dust collector.

The installation was closely projected between Taylors of Harrogate & DCE to ensure the smooth changeover from decommissioning of the old facility to the new.

High production of tea bags across the site results in a large amount of tea dust extracted from various blending and packing machinery which collects in three cartridge dust collectors located approximately 100m apart.

DCE designed, manufactured and installed a unique system to collect the tea waste from all three main dust collector plants, and under vacuum transfer over 100M to a new ATEX approved vacuum filter located in the waste plant of the new facility.

The Benefits

Special changeover valves were located within the vacuum pipe system designed to switch collection between the three dust plants as required controlled by a local PLC system programmed by DCE to meet the specific load transfer.

The collected tea waste having to be transferred to one common plant is discharged from the vacuum filter into the clients 1 Ton bulk collection bag improving environmental & safety conditions.
